Egypt’s tourism sector grows with Sunrise-Minor International partnership
Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, attended a ceremony marking the signing of a strategic partnership between Sunrise Hotels and Resorts and Minor International Hospitality Group, one of the world’s leading hospitality groups and owner of several renowned hotel brands. The signing was witnessed by the Prime Minister earlier that day.
Under this agreement, the two groups will collaborate on an ambitious expansion plan to open and manage 50 new hotels across Egypt, reflecting growing confidence in the Egyptian market and its tourism sector.
The partnership also includes Madaar Development, with initial projects featuring four major hotels within Madaar’s tourism and residential developments. These include a hotel in Azha Ras El Hekma, a hotel in Kanz New Zayed, and two hotels in Azha Ain Sokhna, all built to international standards.
During the ceremony, Minister Fathy delivered a speech congratulating both groups on this significant partnership, expressing optimism about its positive impact on Egypt’s hospitality sector.
He emphasized the importance of such collaborations, particularly at this time, as they align with Egypt’s commitment to enhancing investments in tourism and hospitality. This initiative supports the country’s strategy to achieve substantial tourism growth in the coming years, requiring robust infrastructure, including aviation and hotels, to accommodate the targeted influx of tourists.
The Minister expressed his delight at the entry of new international hotel brands into the Egyptian market in collaboration with successful local companies, noting that this partnership adds to the series of successes in the tourism sector. He looked forward to the soon-to-be-inaugurated first set of hotels under this partnership.
Minister Fathy highlighted Egypt’s unique diversity in tourism products, which forms the foundation of the Ministry’s strategy to position Egypt as the world’s top tourism destination in terms of product and experience variety. He affirmed that Egypt possesses all the necessary attributes and potential to achieve a distinguished position on the global tourism map.
Hossam El Shaer, Chairman of Sunrise Hotels and Resorts and the Egyptian Federation of Tourism Chambers, emphasized that Egypt’s tourism industry is progressing steadily toward achieving the goal of welcoming 30 million tourists. The partnership will commence with the establishment of hotels in Ain Sokhna, Cairo, Sharm El Sheikh, Luxor, Aswan, and the North Coast.
William E. Heinecke, Chairman of Minor International Hospitality Group, stated that his group, in collaboration with Azha, will launch a new series of hotels in Egypt. He described Egypt as his second home and expressed his excitement about introducing his hotel chain to the country.
