Egypt, India Launch Major Factories in Suez Canal Zone
Ismailia, Egypt – In a landmark step marking the tenth anniversary of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE)’s establishment, Egyptian officials have laid the foundation stones for two major Indian metallurgy facilities in “Technology Valley” (Wadi Al-Technologia), Ismailia East. This significant move highlights years of dedicated development work, signaling Egypt’s strong commitment to industrial growth and international cooperation.
The celebratory event was attended by key dignitaries including Mr. Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of SCZONE; Akram Jalal, Governor of Ismailia; Indian Ambassador to Cairo, Suresh Reddy; as well as company leaders Mr. Chinmay Kumar (Ferro Genesis) and Mr. Jasjit Singh (Willow Ferro).
These two factories—Ferro Genesis and Willow Ferro—represent the first wave of investments in the promising Technology Valley zone, with total initial phase investments amounting to $40 million. This ambitious project comes as part of Egypt’s wider efforts to drive socioeconomic development across the Sinai Peninsula.
- Ferro Genesis will be constructed in two phases with the potential for a third. Focused on producing high-purity ‘silico-manganese’ and ‘ferro-silicon’ alloys—vital for top-quality steel—this factory alone occupies 35,000 square meters, and will generate 150 direct jobs. The first phase is valued at $15 million.
- Willow Ferro will cover 40,000 square meters in its first phase and represent a $25 million investment. The factory will focus initially on ferro-silicon and ferro-chrome, and is expected to produce up to 36,000 tons of silicon-manganese products annually, offering 120 direct job opportunities.
Mr. Walid Gamal El-Din expressed his delight at this new chapter for Ismailia’s Technology Valley, emphasizing how SCZONE’s industrial success reflects diligent promotional strategies and Egypt’s broader vision for integrated, inclusive growth. He stressed that these developments will not only support localized job creation—including for the people of Sinai—but also deepen Egypt’s industrial capabilities and international trade links.
He further noted that Technology Valley acts as an industrial backbone to New Ismailia City and aligns with SCZONE’s comprehensive plan to foster modern communities powered by industry and advanced logistics, complemented by upgraded transport and infrastructure—from new bridges and railways to modern energy and water facilities.
Looking ahead, Mr. Gamal El-Din announced several new openings planned for next month in the Qantara West industrial area. This region is fast becoming a global base for textiles and ready-made garments, part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen and diversify Egypt’s manufacturing base.
SCZONE’s milestones in Technology Valley underscore Egypt’s openness to global investment and international partnership, particularly as it celebrates a decade of economic transformation along the Suez Canal corridor. Such collaborations, as seen with Indian industrial leaders, are driving sustainable growth and opportunity for communities across Egypt and beyond.
