AFASU names Seychelles’ former tourism minister to lead new global leadership award
The Afro-Asian Union (AFASU) has appointed Alain St. Ange, Seychelles’ former minister of tourism, civil aviation, ports and marine affairs, as president of its new global “Smile & Impact” award, the organisation said.
AFASU President Hossam Darwish said the appointment comes as the group prepares to launch the award internationally. AFASU said the prize will recognise heads of state, senior leaders and business figures it deems to demonstrate “leadership with the heart” and deliver measurable development results.
St. Ange, described by AFASU as an international tourism expert and adviser within the UN World Tourism system, said he would move to establish an independent international board of trustees to oversee the award.
AFASU is an international body that says it promotes tourism, sustainable development, technology and e-commerce cooperation across Africa and Asia.
