Egypt appoints Romanian expert as new national weightlifting coach

Cairo, Egypt – In a promising step for Egyptian sports, Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, met with the newly appointed national team head coach, Mr. Dragos Doru from Romania.


Mr. Doru, a distinguished expert in the sport, arrived in Egypt just a few days ago to officially begin his mission of leading the Egyptian national weightlifting team.


During the meeting, Minister Sobhi emphasized the importance of this new chapter, expressing keen interest in the coach’s vision for the upcoming period. Discussions focused on Mr. Doru’s technical approach and action plan to revitalize Egyptian weightlifting, aiming to restore Egypt’s rich legacy on continental and global podiums.


The meeting also stressed the need to provide every possible technical and administrative resource to ensure optimal preparation of Egypt’s athletes. Key elements included developing a clear strategy for nurturing talented athletes and refining elite performers in readiness for major competitions, particularly African and World Championships and the upcoming Olympic Games.


The minister described hiring an accomplished international coach as a vital step within Egypt’s plan to enhance technical expertise and elevate national teams’ performances.


For his part, Mr. Doru conveyed his delight at starting his journey in Egypt, emphasizing his full commitment to implementing a comprehensive training program based on the latest methodologies. He aims to build a strong, competitive team capable of raising the Egyptian flag high at international competitions.
