Egypt highlights growth in local automotive manufacturing with international partners
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has emphasized the strategic importance of localizing car manufacturing and boosting exports to strengthen the national economy.
In a meeting with Lieutenant General Mokhtar Abdel Latif, Chairman of the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI), President El-Sisi reviewed progress in Egypt’s state-led industrial projects, particularly in the automotive sector.
During the visit, President El-Sisi inspected locally produced Citroën C4X vehicles, which are manufactured at AOI facilities with 45% local components.
This project is a collaboration with the Arab American Vehicles company and the French automotive group Stellantis. The AOI plans to produce 7,000 Citroën C4X cars annually over four years, totaling 28,000 vehicles.
Additionally, preparations are underway to manufacture a new car model exclusively in Egypt starting in late 2026, with a projected output of 240,000 vehicles.
President El-Sisi underscored AOI’s vital role in expanding Egypt’s manufacturing capabilities, increasing the share of domestically made products, and growing export volumes.
He also called for continued cooperation with major international companies and the private sector to help localize more industries and reduce import dependence, supporting Egypt’s economic development.
The meeting reflects Egypt’s wider strategy to modernize the industrial sector, foster innovation, and become a hub for automotive production in the region.
