Egyptian medical team at Sheikh Zayed Hospital successfully performs delicate surgery for Palestinian child

A medical team at Sheikh Zayed Specialized Hospital has successfully carried out a complex surgery to remove a large blood tumor from the tongue of a 6-year-old Palestinian child.

Dr. Salah Gouda, the hospital’s General Director, explained that the child was brought to the hospital with severe swelling of the tongue.

After a thorough examination by specialists in facial and jaw surgery, as well as neuro-catheterization, and following a series of medical tests and scans, it was discovered that the child had a blood tumor covering almost the entire tongue, the Middle East News Agency reported.

Dr. Gouda added that the case was managed in two main stages, under the supervision of Dr. Ghada El-Morshidi, Head of the Facial and Jaw Surgery Department.

The first stage involved coordination with the anesthesia team, led by Dr. Ahmed Karim, to perform an MRI scan under general anesthesia. This helped the medical team determine the size of the tumor before surgery, which allowed for a suitable medication to be administered for three weeks to stop the tumor from spreading further into the tongue.

After this treatment period, another MRI scan was performed to re-assess the tumor size and the results of the medication. The successful surgical intervention then took place, offering hope and relief to the young patient and his family.

This achievement reflects the high level of medical expertise and care provided at Sheikh Zayed Specialized Hospital, as well as the ongoing support for Palestinian patients in need.
