China’s Premier Li Qiang will pay his first official visit to Egypt from July 9 to 10, at the invitation of Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly. This visit marks the highest-level engagement by a Chinese official in Egypt in recent years and signals a significant boost to the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.

Both Egypt and China regard this visit as a vital diplomatic step, reflecting the close relationship between President Xi Jinping and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. Their personal friendship and frequent high-level exchanges have fostered growing cooperation across political, economic, and cultural spheres.

China is now Egypt’s largest trading partner and a leading investor. Projects like the TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone have supported local economic development and job creation. Chinese companies are increasingly active in sectors such as new energy, textiles, and construction materials, helping Egypt transform its strategic geographic location into an engine for growth.

Beyond economic ties, people-to-people connections are thriving. Egypt was the first Arab and African nation to establish diplomatic relations with modern China, and their friendship continues to strengthen. Interest in Chinese language and culture is rising in Egypt, while Egyptian cultural exhibitions and artifacts attract admiration across China.

Strategically, China and Egypt coordinate closely on regional and international issues, including supporting peace efforts in Gaza and multilateral collaboration through organizations such as the United Nations, the Arab League, and BRICS. Their partnership stands as an example of South-South cooperation for mutual benefit and stability.

Looking ahead, next year will mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt, as well as the hosting of the second China-Arab States Summit. Both countries hope Premier Li’s visit will further cement their traditional friendship and boost cooperation as they strive together for a shared future in the new era.
