Mexico Embassy in Cairo launches Arabic edition of Nettel novel

The Mexican Embassy in Cairo, in cooperation with Lughat Publishing House, celebrated the release of the Arabic translation of “The Only Daughter,” a novel by renowned Mexican writer Guadalupe Nettel.

The event brought together prominent cultural and literary figures, along with Egyptian readers interested in contemporary literature. Publisher Isis Ashour, translator Abdel Halim Gamal, writer Sayed Abdel Hamid and author Wafaa Salah took part in the panel discussion.

Speakers highlighted the role of translation as a vital bridge between cultures, enabling contemporary Mexican literature to reach readers and writers in the Arab world. The translation was completed with support from ProTrad, a Mexican government programme that promotes the dissemination of Mexican literary works abroad.

The programme included an explanation of the translation process, a literary discussion of the novel, and readings from the book in both Arabic and Spanish, underscoring the evening’s focus on cultural and intellectual exchange.

Through such initiatives, Mexico reaffirmed its commitment to cultural diplomacy as a means of strengthening relations with Egypt and fostering dialogue and mutual understanding.
