Egypt’s PM arrives in China for landmark SCO summit in Tianjin
The city of Tianjin, China, is preparing to host the largest-ever Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit from August 31st to September 1st, 2025. As the event draws near, foreign leaders and heads of international organizations are arriving in China to participate in this important gathering that highlights multilateral cooperation.
On Friday afternoon, Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly landed at Beijing Capital International Airport, where he was warmly welcomed. His visit marks another step in Egypt’s increasingly active role on the international stage and underscores the strengthening ties between Egypt and China, according to CGTN.
Egypt became a dialogue partner with the SCO during its 2022 summit in Samarkand. As a leading Arab, African, and Muslim-majority nation, Egypt’s involvement demonstrates the vitality and cohesive spirit of the ‘Shanghai Spirit’ that drives the organization.
Egypt holds a special position in Chinese foreign relations, as it was the first Arab and African country to establish formal diplomatic ties with modern China. Over the years, the partnership between the two countries has flourished in many areas, including infrastructure, finance, trade, space, and people-to-people exchanges. Together, China and Egypt built the first electric light rail in Egypt and developed an economic and trade cooperation zone along the Suez Canal, achieving significant milestones in their collaborative efforts.
The ties between China and Egypt have never been stronger. Under the leadership of both countries’ presidents, the comprehensive strategic partnership has continued to deepen, reaching its best period in history. Last year, the two nations celebrated the 10th anniversary of this partnership, and next year they will mark 70 years of diplomatic relations—a testament to a long-standing friendship and ongoing cooperation for prosperity and development.
As the world looks to Tianjin for the SCO Summit, the presence and active role of Egypt signals new opportunities for multilateral partnership and a shared future.
