Egypt welcomes UK's intention to recognize State of Palestine

The Egyptian government has warmly welcomed the announcement by United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressing his country’s intention to recognize the State of Palestine. In an official statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt described this as a “historic move,” and praised it as an important step aligning with growing international momentum toward a two-state solution.

Egypt expressed gratitude for the UK’s stance, noting that it continues the global trend in support of a sovereign, contiguous Palestinian state, based on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

“Egypt fully supports expanding international recognition of the Palestinian state as a pivotal step towards achieving a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the Middle East,” the statement said. The Ministry emphasized that such recognition is essential in realizing the legitimate rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people, especially their right to self-determination and statehood, as outlined in relevant UN resolutions and Security Council decisions.

Egypt also called on all countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to follow in the footsteps of the United Kingdom and France. The Ministry stated that broader international recognition would significantly contribute to advancing the two-state solution and initiating credible efforts to restore peace and stability to the region.

The announcement reflects Egypt’s continued diplomatic commitment to achieving peace in the Middle East and its longstanding support for the Palestinian cause.
