Egypt donates Tutankhamun sarcophagus replica to Senegal

In a heartwarming gesture reflecting deep-rooted historical bonds, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, presented a meticulously crafted replica of the mummy and sarcophagus of the iconic pharaoh King Tutankhamun to the Museum of Black Civilizations in Dakar, Senegal. 


The ceremonial handover took place in the presence of Senegalese Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports, Mrs. Khady Gay, alongside a host of dignitaries and officials.


This cultural gift marks the celebration of 65 years of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Senegal, highlighting not only mutual respect but also a shared commitment to strengthening cultural and civilizational ties across Africa.


Speaking at the event, Dr. Abdel Aaty expressed his pride in the profound historical connections between the two countries. He emphasized that the offering of King Tutankhamun—a symbol of the grandeur and enduring legacy of Egypt’s pharaonic civilization—reflects Egypt’s dedication to sharing its heritage with African partners. The Foreign Minister noted Egypt's anticipation for the upcoming opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum and reiterated Cairo’s eagerness to collaborate with museums and cultural centers throughout Africa to foster greater unity and exchange.


Senegal’s Minister of Culture praised the move as a generous gesture that embodies the depth of cultural and historical relations between the two nations. She highlighted that displaying the replica at the Museum of Black Civilizations stands as a testament to the solidarity among African peoples and enriches the cultural and developmental dimensions of cooperation between Egypt and Senegal.
