Egypt intensifies efforts to stabilize Gaza ceasefire, support Palestinian unity
Major General Hassan Rashad, head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service, met on Thursday with Hussein Al-Sheikh, Deputy President of the Palestinian Authority, in the presence of Major General Majed Faraj, head of Palestinian Intelligence. The meeting aimed to advance Egypt’s ongoing efforts to resolve the crisis in the Gaza Strip.
During the discussions, both parties agreed to support and implement measures to sustain the Gaza ceasefire agreement. They also reaffirmed their rejection of the Israeli Knesset’s decision to annex any Palestinian territories. Hussein Al-Sheikh emphasized the importance of adhering to the resolutions of the Arab Summit regarding the Palestinian Authority and fostering Palestinian unity.
According to the Palestinian News Agency (Wafa), Al-Sheikh, accompanied by Majed Faraj, arrived in Cairo on Wednesday to hold consultations with Egyptian officials on the latest developments in the Palestinian situation following the cessation of hostilities.
Egypt is preparing to host a conference in the second half of November to focus on the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. Sources reported to Al-Qahera News that Egypt is intensifying communications with the United States to consolidate the Gaza ceasefire and promote a just peace in the Middle East.
Cairo is currently hosting talks among Palestinian factions as part of the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan. These discussions aim to achieve Palestinian consensus on the next steps of the plan, reinforcing Egypt’s role as a mediator in the region.
