Egypt, Mali deepen bilateral relations in presidential message exchange

Bamako – In a significant step towards enhancing bilateral relations, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, met today with President Assimi Goïta of the Republic of Mali. Acting on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Dr. Abdel Aaty delivered a personal letter highlighting Egypt’s commitment to deepening cooperation and supporting Mali.

During their meeting, Dr. Abdel Aaty conveyed President Sisi’s warm greetings and reiterated Egypt’s longstanding friendship with Mali, emphasizing shared historical and brotherly ties. He reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to provide technical, institutional, and logistical support to Mali, acknowledging Mali’s pivotal role in regional stability and development.

Minister Abdel Aaty also highlighted the recent momentum in Egyptian-Malian relations, particularly following several high-level visits and joint initiatives in vital sectors such as education, healthcare, capacity-building, and the fight against extremist ideologies.

Underlining the importance of economic collaboration, Dr. Abdel Aaty led a distinguished delegation of 30 Egyptian business leaders and major companies to participate in the Egypt-Mali Business Forum. This initiative reflects Egypt’s keen interest in advancing trade, investment, and joint projects in infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, construction, energy, and mining.

The meeting also showcased Egypt’s ongoing efforts in capacity-building. More than 100 Malian officials have benefited from Egyptian-funded training and workshops this year, including a prominent program organized by the Cairo International Center in Bamako on post-conflict reconstruction and development.

The two sides further discussed joint action against extremist ideologies, including the vital role played by Egypt’s Al-Azhar through its educational and religious outreach in Mali. Regional security in the Sahel and Sahara was also on the agenda, with both leaders stressing the importance of African cooperation to face security and development challenges.

President Goïta expressed his deep appreciation to President Sisi and Egypt for their unwavering support of Africa’s stability and progress, and reaffirmed Mali’s strong desire to strengthen its partnership with Egypt across all fields.
