Egypt hosts ministerial meeting on Gaza early recovery, reconstruction at UN

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, hosted on Monday evening a high-level ministerial meeting at Egypt’s mission to the United Nations in New York.

The meeting focused on early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, with the virtual participation of Palestinian Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Mustafa, German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Ms. Reem Alabali-Radovan, and senior officials from the EU, Japan, Norway, several Arab states, and other countries.

The discussions aimed to coordinate efforts and build on recent momentum for a peaceful settlement and implementation of the two-state solution. Participants emphasized support for an early recovery plan for Gaza, as agreed by Arab and Islamic countries, and explored ways to ensure the success of an upcoming international conference on Gaza’s reconstruction to be hosted in Cairo after a ceasefire is achieved.

Dr. Abdel Aty praised the countries that have recognized the State of Palestine and urged others to do the same, highlighting the severe hardships faced by Palestinians due to violence, displacement, and destruction in Gaza. He reaffirmed Egypt’s firm refusal to accept any forced displacement of Palestinians and stressed the critical need for international partnership, swift action, and sustained efforts to achieve meaningful recovery and peace.

The Minister underlined the importance of Palestinian leadership and ownership in reconstruction efforts and reiterated the international community’s support for the Arab-Islamic plan, which envisions a comprehensive, sustainable approach and political path toward a two-state solution with East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine.
