Egypt, Sri Lanka explore expanded maritime ties
Suez Canal Authority chief Osama Rabie met Sri Lanka’s ambassador to Egypt, Sisira Senavirathna, on Wednesday to discuss cooperation in maritime industries, logistics and training, the authority said.
Rabie said the two countries’ shared maritime interests offered opportunities to expand cooperation and exchange expertise. He said the canal had broadened its activities and services as part of a strategy to diversify revenue and strengthen its competitiveness, including through maritime manufacturing and upgraded maritime and logistics services.
The authority’s companies and shipyards were ready to cooperate with Sri Lankan businesses in areas including marine construction, port works, shipbuilding, fisheries and logistics, Rabie said. The authority’s Maritime Training and Simulation Academy could also provide training and consultancy services.
Senavirathna praised Egypt’s management of the canal and said Sri Lanka was keen to explore new partnerships in maritime industries and investment opportunities in the Suez Canal region, according to the statement.
He also invited the authority and its affiliated companies to take part in Expo Sri Lanka 2027, an international trade, export and industry exhibition scheduled for mid-January, the statement said.
The meeting took place at the authority’s headquarters in Ismailia.
