Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, held a telephone conversation today with Mr. Antonio Tajani, Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. The two leaders discussed a wide range of key issues, including the latest developments in the Gaza Strip, security in the Horn of Africa, the situation in Libya, and Egyptian water security.

According to Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Abdel Aty briefed his Italian counterpart on Egypt’s ongoing efforts to broker a ceasefire and secure the entry of humanitarian and relief aid into Gaza. Abdel Aty stressed the urgency of alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people amid ongoing Israeli violations in the region.

Minister Tajani expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt’s leadership and tireless endeavors to bring about a ceasefire and ensure humanitarian access to Gaza. He also confirmed Italy’s full support for Egypt’s initiative to host the upcoming Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction immediately after a ceasefire is achieved, announcing that Italy will actively participate in this crucial event. Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to coordinated action in the coming period, aiming to intensify diplomatic pressure to achieve a ceasefire and ensure the delivery of vital assistance to Gaza.

The call also addressed recent developments in the Horn of Africa, highlighting the importance of continued close coordination between Egypt and Italy against a backdrop of regional tensions, grounded in the strong relationship between the countries’ leadership.

Minister Abdel Aty shared Egypt’s concerns over Nile River water security, emphasizing Egypt’s adherence to international law regarding shared water resources. He stressed that cooperation and mutual benefit must guide the management of the Nile Basin’s waters, while firmly rejecting any unilateral actions that contravene international legal standards. Abdel Aty reaffirmed Egypt’s determination to take all measures permitted under international law to safeguard the vital interests of its people.

Turning to Libya, both ministers emphasized the urgent need to hold simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible. They underscored the necessity of dismantling militias, withdrawing all foreign forces, fighters, and mercenaries, viewing these steps as vital to ensuring Libya’s security, stability, and preventing irregular migration.

The conversation underscored the strong partnership between Egypt and Italy, and their shared commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity in their regions.
