Egypt to adjust museum fees for Arab visitors

Cairo—In a recent move, Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities has decided to end the policy of equal entry fees for Egyptian and Arab visitors at the nation’s archaeological sites and museums.

The decision, originally put in place in 2007, had allowed visitors from Arab countries to pay the same reduced entry fees as Egyptian nationals. Now, citing significant differences in average income and in line with what is already practiced at the Grand Egyptian Museum and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, the Council will unify entry fees for both Arab and other foreign visitors, while continuing to offer reduced rates specifically for Egyptians.

This new fee system will come into effect starting January 1, 2026, and will apply to all museums and archaeological sites run by the Council across Egypt.

The Council says its aim is to create a fair and consistent system, matching international practices and supporting the ongoing preservation and development of Egypt’s vast cultural heritage.
