Damietta Port launches multimodal transport, shipping 750 tons of fertilizer via Nile River

The Damietta Port Authority has successfully executed a first-of-its-kind operation, shipping and transporting 750 tons of packaged urea fertilizer. Produced by Misr Fertilizers Production Company (MOPCO), the cargo was loaded onto the Nile 5 river unit, operated by the National Nile Company for River Transport.

The vessel embarked on a journey along the Nile River to the A'qab area in Aswan, with its final destination being the Toshka region. The delivery is intended to support the national agricultural development projects in that area.

This achievement aligns with the Egyptian Ministry of Transport's strategy to enhance multimodal transport options at the Damietta Port. The initiative aims to leverage the Nile River as a safe, cost-effective, and efficient means of transporting goods, particularly for major national projects like Toshka.

The operation was overseen by the Chairman of the Damietta Port Authority, who directed various departments to provide the necessary support and ensure the cargo was loaded quickly and efficiently, adhering to the highest standards of safety and quality.

This success highlights the Damietta Port's advanced capabilities as a multimodal transport hub. Its integrated infrastructure connects sea, land, and river transport, solidifying its role as a strategic center for transport and trade in Egypt.

This operation is a prime example of successful collaboration between industry and logistics services. The shipment was produced by MOPCO and transported by the National Nile Company for River Transport, with support from a major stevedoring company at the port.

This joint effort demonstrates the state's commitment to developing its domestic transport system and reducing pressure on roadways, as part of a comprehensive national plan for sustainable development.
