Egypt’s national power grid reaches year’s highest peak demand amid heatwave

Egypt’s national electricity grid reached its highest level of power usage so far this year, as soaring temperatures drove unprecedented demand across the country.

According to a statement released by Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, the maximum load on the grid on Thursday reached 37,600 megawatts. This record-breaking figure reflects a consistent daily increase in consumption, averaging 500 megawatts per day over the past three days—an unusually rapid rise for this time of year.

The Ministry emphasized that the unified national grid successfully managed these higher loads, maintaining stability and continuous electricity supply despite the intense summer heat. The recent surge in electricity demand is attributed to increased air conditioning and cooling needs as Egyptians cope with high temperatures.

To ensure the reliability of the power supply, the Ministry has intensified its operational and maintenance efforts. Additional support and inspection teams have been deployed across production, transmission, and distribution networks, and extended hours have been introduced at service centers for citizens. The government is also boosting its response teams for customer complaints to guarantee quick resolutions and maintain high standards of service.

Egypt's proactive steps reflect its commitment to sustaining essential services and supporting citizens’ well-being during challenging weather conditions.
