Egypt signs landmark agreement to raise standards and safety in holiday homes

Egypt is taking another important step in ensuring the safety and comfort of international travelers and the dedicated staff who serve them.

In a significant move for the hospitality sector, Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Ministry of Labor have signed a joint cooperation protocol that sets new licensing conditions and safety standards for “holiday home” units—furnished apartments and residences welcoming visitors from around the world.

Mr. Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, and Mr. Mohamed Gebran, Minister of Labor, formalized the agreement at a signing ceremony held at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital.

This protocol represents a shared commitment by both ministries to secure a safe, healthy environment in the country’s growing sector of hotel apartments and vacation residences—often known as “holiday homes” among international travelers. By introducing clear legal conditions and safety requirements, the agreement aims to protect both the guests enjoying a unique Egyptian holiday and the staff who make those vacations possible.

Under the new protocol, Egypt’s Ministry of Labor will verify that these holiday home units comply with occupational health and safety standards—providing peace of mind and reassurance for all. A joint committee, including representatives from both ministries, will regularly inspect accommodation to ensure adherence to the highest safety and service standards, in line with the updated regulations announced just a few months ago.

This milestone agreement supports Egypt’s vision to create a world-class and sustainable tourism sector by welcoming each guest into safe, comfortable, and well-regulated vacation accommodations across the country. As visitor numbers to Egypt continue to grow, these efforts are designed to further boost the competitiveness and reputation of Egyptian tourism, ensuring every traveler’s experience is both delightful and secure.

The signing ceremony was attended by key officials, including Mr. Mohamed Amer, Head of the Central Administration for Hotel Establishments and Tourist Activities, and senior specialists in occupational safety from the Ministry of Labor.

Egypt is excited to share its timeless wonders with even more visitors while providing an environment where international guests and tourism employees alike can feel completely at ease: safe, cared for, and welcome—hallmarks of Egypt’s famous hospitality.
