Egypt and US reaffirm strategic alliance, pursue solutions for regional crises
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi welcomed General Michael Kurilla, Commander of U.S. Central Command, for high-level talks in Cairo today.
The meeting was attended by Egypt’s Minister of Defense, General Abdel Majeed Saqr, and U.S. Ambassador to Egypt, Herro Mustafa.
General Kurilla conveyed greetings from U.S. President Donald Trump to President Sisi, who expressed deep appreciation for the longstanding, strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States.
Discussions centered on further enhancing cooperation across various fields, particularly military and security collaboration, reaffirming both countries’ shared commitment to promoting regional and international stability and security.
Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy highlighted that the talks also covered the current situation in the Middle East, with President Sisi reiterating Egypt’s continued efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, facilitate hostage exchanges, and ensure swift delivery of humanitarian aid to affected populations. President Sisi commended President Trump’s efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Gaza and stressed the importance of revitalizing the peace process for lasting stability in the region.
The meeting underscored the urgent need to de-escalate tensions in the region and pursue enduring, political solutions to ongoing crises, including those in Syria, Libya, Sudan, and the Horn of Africa. President Sisi also highlighted Egypt’s unwavering commitment to the Nile River as a matter of national security, emphasizing the paramount importance of equitable water rights.
Both parties reaffirmed their readiness to deepen U.S.-Egyptian cooperation, working together to build a more peaceful, secure, and prosperous region for all.
