Egypt’s Parliament warns against uncoordinated border marches amid regional tensions

The Speaker of Egypt’s House of Representatives, Dr. Hanafy Gebaly, has cautioned against any attempts by groups or individuals to organize marches or approach Egypt’s border areas without prior coordination and proper legal permits.

In a statement during parliament’s general session on Sunday, Dr. Gebaly emphasized that while Egypt is making tremendous efforts to end the ongoing violence and lift blockades in the region, any mass movement towards sensitive border zones requires full legal authorization.

He underscored that such measures are critical for safeguarding Egypt’s national security and the safety of both its citizens and visitors, especially given the current volatile situation in the wider Middle East.

Dr. Gebaly specifically addressed those planning to march towards the Rafah border area. “We do not doubt your noble intentions,” he said, “but supporting the Palestinian cause and standing with its resilient people must be done in a way that respects the sovereignty and laws of Egypt. This is a matter that allows for no debate or leniency.”

This warning comes as Egypt’s borders remain tightly controlled due to ongoing conflicts in the region.

Foreign nationals and organizations in Egypt are strongly encouraged to follow official guidelines and seek the necessary permits before participating in any activities near border areas.
