Egypt, Namibia to boost agricultural collaboration, knowledge exchange

Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, met with a parliamentary delegation from Namibia, led by Paulus Mbango, Chairman of the Agriculture and Water Committee at Namibia’s National Council, to discuss opportunities for enhanced agricultural collaboration between the two countries.

The discussions, attended by senior officials and parliamentary leaders from both nations, focused on exchanging expertise, developing improved crop seeds, mitigating the impact of climate change on agriculture, improving livestock breeds, and promoting agro-industrial cooperation. Both sides emphasized the potential for joint development and sharing of best practices.

Minister Farouk highlighted the Egyptian leadership’s commitment to broadening partnerships with African nations, especially in the fields of food security and sustainable agricultural development. He welcomed the Namibian delegation’s visit and expressed Egypt's readiness to support Namibia with training programs and technical expertise through Egyptian research centers.

Namibia’s parliamentary representative praised Egypt’s rapid agricultural progress and expressed interest in benefiting from Egypt’s technological advancements in areas like land reclamation, seed production, and soil improvement, while also noting Namibia’s significant agricultural potential in land and livestock.

The two parties agreed to form a joint technical committee to draft a memorandum of understanding, outlining specific areas of cooperation and clear timelines for implementation.

This initiative reflects a broader movement in Africa to strengthen regional collaboration for sustainable growth and food security.
