TIANJIN, CHINA — In a significant step towards deepening the partnership between China and Egypt, Chinese President Xi Jinping welcomed Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Tianjin, on the sidelines of the "Shanghai Cooperation Organization Plus Summit." The meeting, held as Prime Minister Madbouly represented President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, highlighted both countries' commitment to advancing cooperation across multiple sectors.

President Xi extended his warmest greetings to President El-Sisi and praised Egypt's recent accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as its first Arab and African member, marking a major milestone in international collaboration. President Xi noted that next year, Cairo and Beijing will joyfully celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations, underlining the enduring strength of their ties.

During the meeting, President Xi reaffirmed China's support for the continued operation and expansion of Chinese businesses in Egypt. He emphasized joint plans to boost investments, especially in renewable energy, electric vehicles, and energy project components. Notably, President Xi hailed the role of successful Chinese ventures in Egypt, such as the "TEDA" industrial developer, with Chinese investments exceeding $3 billion.

Prime Minister Madbouly expressed appreciation for China's ongoing economic partnership, noting that China is now Egypt’s leading trading partner. He welcomed further Chinese investment and highlighted Egypt's commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment for Chinese enterprises.

Both leaders discussed broadening partnerships in emerging sectors, ranging from renewable energy to water desalination projects. Prime Minister Madbouly shared his hope for deeper collaboration in building local capacities—particularly around electric vehicles and the components of large-scale energy projects.

The Chinese President also expressed eagerness to encourage more Chinese tourists to visit Egypt, and signaled renewed cooperation on "Panda bonds" and currency exchange initiatives, reflecting a shared interest in further financial and economic integration.

President Xi conveyed his appreciation for Egypt's support of the "One China" policy and applauded Cairo's active diplomatic stance in maintaining peace and stability across the Middle East and Red Sea regions. Both sides reinforced the importance of international cooperation based not only on mutual interest, but also on upholding international law and fair trade principles.

As a gesture of goodwill, President Xi congratulated President El-Sisi on the upcoming opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum and expressed his willingness to visit Egypt as part of his future African tour. He also invited President El-Sisi to participate in the upcoming Arab-China Summit.

Prime Minister Madbouly relayed President El-Sisi's best wishes and reaffirmed Egypt's dedication to enhancing bilateral relations as well as mutual support for development goals. He expressed gratitude for China’s steadfast backing of Egypt’s economic and financial initiatives, as well as China’s broader contributions to stability and prosperity in the region.
