President Sisi congratulates German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, discusses regional and international issues
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a phone call today with the new German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz.
According to the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, President El-Sisi congratulated Chancellor Merz on his well-deserved victory in the German elections, reflecting the trust of the German people.
President El-Sisi expressed his best wishes for the new government’s success in promoting Germany’s pivotal role in Europe and internationally, especially amid rapidly changing regional and global dynamics.
He also emphasized the importance of respecting established international principles and laws, aligning with Germany’s efforts and experience over recent decades.
Chancellor Merz expressed his appreciation for the President’s gesture and reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to its strong relationship with Egypt.
Both leaders stressed their mutual commitment to strengthening and deepening bilateral relations, particularly in economic, trade, and investment fields, as well as enhancing development cooperation to further connect the two friendly nations.
The two leaders also discussed current regional and international developments.
President El-Sisi reviewed Egypt’s efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, highlighting the need for the international community to push for an immediate halt to military operations and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid.
He reiterated Egypt’s firm rejection of any plans to displace Palestinians from their land and called for broader international recognition of the State of Palestine in line with the two-state solution.
The conversation also covered developments in Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Sudan, and Somalia, and ways to restore stability in the Middle East.
Chancellor Merz emphasized Germany’s keenness to continue coordination and consultation with Egypt to help restore peace and stability in the region.
