Egypt launches “Creative Egypt” online platform to bring traditional handicrafts to the world

In a significant step to celebrate and preserve Egypt’s rich artisanal heritage, the Ministry of Industry has launched a new online platform—Creative Egypt showcasing over 900 distinctive handmade products. The digital marketplace is set to connect Egypt’s skilled artisans with local and international shoppers, sharing the nation’s vibrant traditions beyond its borders.

This initiative, led under the guidance of Vice Prime Minister for Industrial Development, H.E. Eng. Kamel El-Wazir, and implemented by the Industrial Modernization Center, arrives as the beloved Creative Egypt project marks ten years of supporting local craftspeople. The launch of the platform seeks to raise awareness about Egypt’s age-old crafts, open up new markets for artisan communities, and create fresh job opportunities, while celebrating the unique stories behind each handmade piece.

The online store allows buyers to explore exquisite items across seven sectors—leather, textiles, glass, ceramics, wood, stones, and metalwork. Shoppers can discover the magic of pharaonic alabaster, handwoven shawls, elegant embroidery, vibrant pottery, and many more treasures passed down through generations.

“Every item tells a story,” shares Ms. Doaa Salima, Executive Director of the Industrial Modernization Center. She added, “We are proud to present high-quality, authentic Egyptian handicrafts crafted with extraordinary skill and passion. Our mission is not just to preserve these traditions, but to empower our artisans, help them develop new skills, and access global markets.”

The Craft Revitalization Program, now in its 20th year, has played a pivotal role in supporting craftspeople through specialized training, modern design development, and ongoing technical assistance across Egypt’s governorates. This long-term support has kept cherished traditions alive, helping artisans adapt to contemporary tastes while ensuring the highest standards for export.

Since its inception in 2015, the Creative Egypt brand has become an emblem of Egyptian craftsmanship, bringing together over 140 artisan collectives and entrepreneurs from across the country. The physical home of the project is housed at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Cairo, symbolically connecting modern creators with Egypt’s storied past.

Through Creative Egypt, more than 120 small startups have transitioned from the informal to the formal business sector, and 50 more have established their own brands, all with the help of supportive government initiatives.

This new online presence invites global audiences to celebrate, support, and enjoy Egypt’s exceptional handmade treasures from the comfort of their own homes. With a simple visit to Creative Egypt, shoppers can bring a cherished piece of Egyptian heritage into their lives—and help secure a brighter future for the nation’s artisans.
