Egypt, Qatar celebrate humanitarian cooperation for Gaza
Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity, Maya Morsi attended a ceremony marking the Egyptian-Qatari partnership to address urgent humanitarian needs in Gaza.
Dr. Morsi expressed pride in the collaboration, highlighting the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement’s significance, achieved under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s leadership in partnership with the United States, Qatar, and Turkey.
Egypt has facilitated humanitarian aid delivery and will host a Gaza reconstruction conference in November. She emphasized Egypt’s unwavering support for Palestine, describing it as the "beating heart of Arabism," advocating for Palestinian rights to freedom, dignity, and sovereignty while working to stop bloodshed and achieve lasting peace.
Over the past two years, Egypt has shouldered significant responsibility, with the Egyptian Red Crescent serving as a key mechanism for delivering aid to Gaza. With over 114 years of humanitarian work, the Red Crescent has coordinated aid from 52 countries, including 605 maritime shipments and 936 air shipments.
Notably, Qatar’s ship was the 606th maritime delivery. Inside Gaza, the Red Crescent established camps, provided over 2 million loaves of bread, and distributed over 2 million meals through a unique cross-border humanitarian kitchen in Al-Arish.
Since July 27, 2025, it has delivered 53 convoys under the "Zad Al-Ezza" initiative, including over 2.8 million food baskets, 400,000 flour sacks, 700,000 hygiene kits, and nearly 7,000 tents, with total aid exceeding 600,000 tons since October 2023. Additionally, the Red Crescent facilitated the passage of approximately 7,000 injured Palestinians and their families for treatment in Egypt.
Dr. Morsi underscored the strategic Egyptian-Qatari partnership, which has prioritized addressing Gaza’s dire humanitarian crisis through coordinated relief efforts and mediation for temporary and permanent humanitarian truces. She expressed gratitude to Qatar for its vital contributions, describing the partnership as a model of Arab solidarity aimed at alleviating suffering in challenging times.
The event was attended by Qatar’s Minister of International Cooperation, Maryam bint Ali Al-Misnad, Qatar’s Deputy Ambassador to Egypt, Maryam Al-Shaibi, Qatar Charity CEO Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari, Ambassador Nabila Makram, Head of the Technical Secretariat of Egypt’s National Alliance for Civil Development Work, Dr. Amal Emam, Executive Director of the Egyptian Red Crescent, Dr. Mohamed Al-Aqabi, Assistant Minister for Strategic Communication and Media, Dina Al-Seirafi, Assistant Minister for International Cooperation and Agreements, and representatives from civil society, diplomatic circles, and media.
