Global leaders issue joint statement urging two-state solution amid Middle East escalation

In a joint statement released today, France and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as co-chairs of the United Nations High-level Conference on the Peaceful Resolution of the Palestinian Question and Implementation of the Two-State Solution, along with a coalition of international partners, expressed deep concern over the recent escalation of violence in the Middle East.

The signatories include senior representatives from Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Mexico, Norway, Qatar, Senegal, Spain, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and the League of Arab States.

The ongoing deterioration of the situation has led to the temporary suspension of the UN conference, underlining what the group called “the urgent need to restore calm, respect international law, and prioritize diplomatic solutions.” The leaders highlighted the fragility of the current environment and urged all parties to act responsibly to prevent further deterioration.

Despite these challenges, the group reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the conference's objectives, stressing that preparations are underway to reschedule roundtable meetings soon. The upcoming sessions aim to build on international collaboration and develop clear, coordinated commitments to advance the implementation of a two-state solution for Israelis and Palestinians.

“At this critical juncture, we call on the international community to intensify efforts to uphold the principles of international law, respect national sovereignty, and work together to promote peace, freedom, and dignity for all the peoples of the region,” the statement said.

The coalition reiterated its steadfast support for all efforts to end the conflict in Gaza and achieve a fair and lasting solution for the Palestinian people through the two-state framework, ensuring long-term security and stability for all countries in the region.
