Egypt and Tunisia pledge stronger economic ties at bilateral business forum
Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly welcomed Tunisian Prime Minister Ms. Sara Zaafrani and her delegation to Egypt’s New Administrative Capital on the occasion of the Egypt-Tunisia Business Forum, held alongside the 18th session of the Egyptian-Tunisian Higher Joint Committee.
Prime Minister Madbouly expressed deep appreciation for the strong bonds rooted in history and shared understanding between Egypt and Tunisia, underlining the Egyptian leadership’s respect for Tunisia and its aspirations for the country’s prosperity.
In his remarks, Dr. Madbouly emphasized that the forum is a testament to the longstanding relationship and mutual desire to strengthen political coordination, encourage private sector collaboration, and create new economic opportunities for the peoples of both countries. He acknowledged recent progress in bilateral trade and investment but noted that current figures fall short of the enormous potential the two nations hold.
Dr. Madbouly called for transforming these historic ties into practical economic partnerships, leveraging areas such as agriculture, food security, tourism, manufacturing, and information technology, with the aim of generating jobs and sustainable growth. He proposed activating the joint Egypt-Tunisia Business Council as a platform for promoting investment opportunities, sharing information, and possibly launching a digital portal to serve business communities in both countries.
He also encouraged more direct communication between Egyptian and Tunisian chambers of commerce, investor associations, and private enterprises, to convert strong potential into real-world projects. Additionally, he highlighted the opportunity for joint expansion into African markets, combining Egypt’s strong presence in East and Central Africa with Tunisia’s role in West Africa to launch collaborative projects in sectors such as agriculture, textiles, and food manufacturing.
Dr. Madbouly concluded by reiterating Egypt’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Tunisia at a strategic level — aiming for tangible benefits for both nations. He thanked the Tunisian leadership and people for their dedication to making the partnership a success and expressed hope that the business forum would mark the beginning of a new, dynamic phase of cooperation.
