Swiss ambassador praises Egypt’s leadership in Hepatitis C elimination
On the occasion of World Hepatitis Day, the Ambassador of Switzerland in Egypt, Dr. Andreas Baum, attended a special event hosted by Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population and sponsored by Roche. In his address, Ambassador Baum commended Egypt’s remarkable efforts in eliminating Hepatitis C, describing it as a global model for leadership and partnership.
Dr. Baum highlighted the success of Egypt’s “100 Million Healthy Lives” initiative, emphasizing the critical role of government, international organizations, civil society, and the private sector working together. “Egypt’s achievement demonstrates how political will combined with scientific innovation can transform public health,” said Ambassador Baum.
He also noted Switzerland’s pride in supporting resilient global health systems and the importance of partnerships that advance local biopharmaceutical manufacturing—key to sustainable economic growth.
