Egypt confirms nuclear safety amid regional tensions
Cairo, Egypt – Egypt’s Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA) announced that the country remains completely safe from any nuclear or radiological threats, amidst heightened regional tensions between Israel and Iran. The assurance comes following a high-level emergency meeting chaired by ENRRA Chairman Dr. Sami Shaban, and attended by representatives from all relevant ministries and agencies.
In a statement issued after the meeting, ENRRA reported that there are “no indications of any potential radiological impacts in Egypt.” The authority underscored that it operates 24-hour radiation monitoring systems across the country, ensuring the ongoing safety and protection of citizens.
The committee reviewed regular updates and confirmed ongoing, direct coordination with national agencies such as the Egyptian Meteorological Authority and the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics.
Since 2022, ENRRA has maintained formal cooperation with these organizations to further strengthen monitoring and response capabilities.
To promote transparency and public confidence, the Authority plans to launch an awareness campaign aimed at clarifying the facts about nuclear and radiological activities in Egypt and countering misinformation that may arise.
Key recommendations from the emergency committee include maintaining vigilant monitoring of radiation networks and early warning systems, continuing close cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and expanding communication channels to minimize rumors and increase public awareness about nuclear safety.
ENRRA reiterated its unwavering commitment to public health and safety, pledging to provide transparent and reliable information, and to uphold international standards of nuclear security for Egypt and its people.
