Egypt and Algeria deepen cooperation and call for diplomacy amid Middle East tensions
Istanbul, June 22, 2025 – On the sidelines of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Istanbul, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, held a constructive meeting with his Algerian counterpart, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad.
Dr. Abdel Aaty praised the deep-rooted historical friendship between Egypt and Algeria, highlighting the recent positive developments and mutual commitment in their bilateral relationship. He emphasized both countries’ shared intent to elevate cooperation across various sectors—especially economic, trade, and investment partnerships—for the benefit of their peoples.
The two ministers also reviewed rapidly evolving regional challenges. Dr. Abdel Aaty spoke about Egypt’s ongoing efforts to revive the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, aiming to restore calm and facilitate humanitarian aid to the region. The talks also addressed the repercussions of current tensions between Israel and Iran on broader regional stability.
Dr. Abdel Aaty cautioned against the continued military escalation and warned of its potentially grave impact on regional security. He underscored that diplomatic and political solutions remain the only path forward to de-escalate tensions and prevent a wider conflict in the Middle East.
Both Egypt and Algeria reaffirmed their solidarity and commitment to working together for peace, stability, and prosperity throughout the region.
