Sisi attends 74th Egyptian Police Day celebrations, delivers key address on national security and regional stability
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi attended the official ceremony commemorating the 74th anniversary of Egyptian Police Day on Saturday at the Police Academy in New Cairo. The event, held under the auspices of the Ministry of Interior, highlighted the pivotal role of Egypt's police forces in safeguarding national security and stability.
Upon arrival, President Sisi was received by Interior Minister Major General Mahmoud Tawfik. The ceremony commenced with the honor guard performing the military salute, followed by the playing of the national anthem. The President laid a wreath at the memorial monument in tribute to fallen police officers, accompanied by the "Salute to the Martyrs" performed by the band. He then greeted senior state officials and members of the Supreme Police Council.
In a closed-door session, President Sisi met with Supreme Police Council members in the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and Minister Tawfik. The Minister presented the President with a copy of the Holy Quran, after which a commemorative photograph was taken.
The program featured an operetta titled "Story of a Nation", showcasing the historical heroism of Egypt's police. A dedicated segment honored martyr Colonel Rami Hilal, with President Sisi personally greeting the martyr's family and son. Additional highlights included a musical tribute to police martyrs, a documentary on police force deployments and equipment, and another film documenting rigorous training exercises.
Minister Tawfik delivered a speech emphasizing the police's unwavering commitment to the nation, concluding by presenting President Sisi with a symbolic model depicting Egypt's historical and modern landmarks, crowned by the police eagle and the number "74" to mark the occasion and symbolize the New Republic.
In recognition of exceptional service and sacrifice, President Sisi awarded medals to families of four police martyrs and decorations to twelve officers for their dedicated contributions to the homeland.
In his keynote speech, President Sisi extended heartfelt congratulations to the men and women of the police force, describing them as the forefront guardians of Egypt's internal security, stability, and sovereignty.
He renewed pledges of loyalty to police martyrs, affirming the state's ongoing support for their families through dedicated funds and initiatives established in recent years, including provisions for children of martyrs and the injured upon reaching adulthood. The President stressed that support for these families continues year-round via programs at the Police and Military Academies.
Addressing the global context, President Sisi noted the world's escalating conflicts over resources, influence, and ideologies, warning that such practices risk eroding the post-World War II international order. He reaffirmed Egypt's role as a bastion of stability, a safe haven for millions, and a barrier against irregular migration—without using the issue for political leverage.
Highlighting Egypt's diplomatic efforts, the President praised the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement for a Gaza ceasefire as evidence of Cairo's commitment to peace, in collaboration with partners including the United States under President Donald Trump. He called for full implementation of the deal, unrestricted humanitarian aid to Gaza, immediate reconstruction, and an end to systematic practices against Palestinians, including any forced displacement. He cautioned that displacing Gaza's population could trigger massive migration waves to Europe and beyond, with severe consequences.
President Sisi drew a firm "red line" against attempts to fragment regional states, seize territories, or establish parallel militias—practices he said directly threaten Egypt's national security. He emphasized that legitimate state institutions, not militias, ensure stability, crediting divine providence for preserving Egypt.
Turning to domestic resilience, the President underscored the importance of fortifying youth against misinformation, particularly via social media and artificial intelligence, through awareness efforts in mosques, churches, universities, schools, and homes. He noted Egypt's success in decisively defeating terrorism by 2022 and called for continued vigilance against extremism, rooted in ignorance, while promoting national unity and equality among all citizens.
President Sisi affirmed Egypt's steadfast path toward economic reforms, private sector empowerment, optimal resource use, and improved living standards. He highlighted long-term institutional development programs requiring patience, self-criticism, and merit-based advancement to transition from past challenges to sustained progress.
Concluding, the President expressed pride in the police force's role in upholding law, security, and protection for all on Egypt's blessed land, wishing them continued success.
Following the ceremony, President Sisi attended a luncheon with senior officials and media figures, where discussions focused on domestic reforms—including media responsibility, impartial state appointments, education and healthcare improvements—and Egypt's foreign policy commitment to international law, peaceful relations, and regional stability.
The event underscored Egypt's enduring emphasis on security institutions as pillars of the state and people, not any single regime, amid ongoing regional challenges.
