Egypt and China’s Sunrev Solar ink $200 million deal for integrated solar manufacturing complex
Cairo, Egypt– In a significant boost to Egypt's renewable energy sector, Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly attended the signing ceremony of a $200 million contract for the construction of a fully integrated solar energy equipment manufacturing complex in Ain Sokhna. The project will be implemented by China’s Sunrev Solar, one of the world’s leading producers of solar energy components.
The agreement was signed in the presence of senior government officials, including Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, and Walid Gamal Eldin, Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone).
Set within the industrial zone of Ain Sokhna, the new complex will span 200,000 square meters and will be constructed in two phases. The first phase includes building factories for solar cells and modules, each with a capacity of 2 gigawatts. The second phase aims to localize the manufacturing of essential raw materials, including silicon ingots and wafers, in addition to the previously mentioned cells and modules.
Walid Gamal Eldin highlighted the strategic importance of the project: “This is one of the largest industrial investments in renewable energy components inside the Suez Canal Economic Zone. The project is expected to create over 1,800 direct jobs in its two phases and to generate annual export revenues of around $300 million by supplying both regional and international markets.”
He further revealed that the project’s foundation stone will be laid on June 19, 2025, with the first phase anticipated to become operational in the first half of 2026. Gamal Eldin emphasized that the success of this venture reflects the confidence of leading global companies in Egypt’s business climate and supports national efforts to localize advanced industries and complete the solar energy value chain—from raw materials through to final products.
Prime Minister Madbouly noted that the SCZone offers compelling incentives for investors, particularly in the burgeoning clean energy sector, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting Egypt’s transition to a green economy and the goals of Egypt Vision 2030.
The Sunrev Solar investment marks a milestone in Egypt's drive to become a regional leader in renewable energy manufacturing, further strengthening ties between Egypt and China, and promoting sustainable, export-driven economic growth.
