Egypt, UAE sign MoU to boost regional energy collaboration
Abu Dhabi, UAE – In a significant step to strengthen regional energy cooperation, Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Eng. Karim Badawi, held an extensive meeting with leaders of Abu Dhabi Ports Group at the Group’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The two sides explored new opportunities to maximize the benefits from Egypt’s advanced petroleum assets, particularly its strategic crude oil reserves, as well as other areas of mutual interest including transport, logistics, and digital solutions.
A highlight of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum, Abu Dhabi Ports Group, and TCM Project Management Company. The MoU aims to study potential joint regional collaborations that will further enhance the deep and diverse partnership between Egypt and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Eng. Karim Badawi emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to adding value to Egypt’s petroleum sector, citing the importance of integrating the digital capabilities and operational expertise of Abu Dhabi Ports with Egypt’s infrastructure. “This partnership supports regional energy security, enhances supply chain resilience, and facilitates the international flow of crude oil,” Minister Badawi noted. He also underscored the historic and strategic ties binding Egypt and the UAE across all fields of energy.
The Group’s CEO highlighted the strategic importance of the Egyptian market for Abu Dhabi Ports, acknowledging the solid relationship between the two countries. “This agreement demonstrates our ongoing commitment to long-term strategic partnerships that support Egypt’s economic and industrial ambitions,” he said. The CEO reiterated the Group’s intention to continue fostering economic cooperation with Egypt, ensuring prosperity for both nations.
The MoU was signed by Ahmed Al-Mutawa, Regional CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Group, Nasser Shoman, Deputy Minister of Petroleum for Transport and Marketing in Egypt, and Mahmoud Faraj Omran, General Manager of TCM. The ceremony was attended by senior officials, including Sharif Issa, Egypt’s Ambassador to the UAE, confirming the high-level support for this regional initiative.
This agreement marks a new phase in cooperation between the UAE and Egypt, aiming to leverage mutual strengths and contribute meaningfully to the stability and growth of the regional energy sector.
