Egypt announces major expansion in raisin and flax industries to boost national economy
Egypt has unveiled ambitious plans to expand its raisin and flax industries, aiming to strengthen national industries and increase the added-value of local agricultural products. In a recent high-level meeting, Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, and Minister of Agriculture, Alaa Farouk, discussed new strategies to support farmers and manufacturers, drive job creation, and enhance Egypt’s export competitiveness.
The government will prioritize the development of raisin manufacturing by increasing grape cultivation and creating specialized industrial zones in the Nile Delta. This effort seeks to position Egypt as a leading regional producer, leveraging modern technology and training for workers. The initiative also supports rural economies by encouraging the growth of ‘productive villages’ and building storage facilities to streamline logistics.
Parallel to this, the ministers underlined their commitment to localizing the flax industry, focusing on the full utilization of flax for textiles, ropes, edible oils, paints, and animal feed. Plans include comprehensive training and the use of advanced technologies to maximize efficiency and economic returns.
Minister Alaa Farouk emphasized that linking agriculture with manufacturing is at the core of Egypt’s strategic vision, ensuring farmers and local communities benefit from higher-value products and more robust supply chains.
This collaborative approach marks a key step in transforming Egypt’s agricultural output into globally competitive, high-value products. The government’s integrated strategy reflects Egypt’s broader commitment to sustainable development and inclusive economic growth.
