Egypt, Malaysia leaders pledge cooperation on Gaza peace and reconstruction
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim held a telephone conversation today, with a central focus on ongoing efforts for peace in Gaza and strengthening ties between their two nations.
Prime Minister Ibrahim opened the call by congratulating President El-Sisi on Egypt’s pivotal role in brokering a ceasefire in Gaza. He praised the leadership and intensive efforts of the Egyptian government, highlighting the successful organization of the recent Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit and reaffirming Malaysia’s full support for Egypt’s endeavors to end the conflict.
During the call, President El-Sisi reviewed the outcomes of the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit and Egypt’s continuing coordination with international partners to advance a peaceful resolution in Gaza. He commended Malaysia’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause and emphasized the shared vision between Egypt and Malaysia for establishing a serious political process. Both leaders agreed on the importance of working towards an independent Palestinian state based on international agreements, affirming that such a development is essential for lasting peace in the region.
President El-Sisi also announced Egypt’s intention to host an international conference for early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, expressing hope for active Malaysian participation. Prime Minister Ibrahim welcomed the initiative, confirming Malaysia’s commitment to aid reconstruction and provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza in close coordination with Egypt.
The leaders also discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations and expand cooperation in various sectors including entrepreneurship, energy, tourism, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and private sector partnerships. President El-Sisi acknowledged the positive impact of Prime Minister Ibrahim’s visit to Egypt in November 2024, emphasizing the importance of building on the progress made and deepening collaboration in both political and economic spheres.
Today’s call underscored the strong and growing partnership between Egypt and Malaysia as both countries reaffirmed their commitment to peace and prosperity in the Middle East and beyond.
