Egypt FM, US special envoy discuss efforts toward Gaza ceasefire

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, spoke by phone late on on Wednesday with Mr. Steve Witkoff, the US President’s Special Envoy to the Middle East, to discuss urgent efforts toward achieving a ceasefire in Gaza and reinforcing regional stability.

During the conversation, both officials exchanged views on the latest developments regarding the ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing the ongoing coordination between Egypt and Qatar.

Minister Abdel Aaty reiterated the urgent need to renew the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and to ensure the unhindered delivery of humanitarian, relief, and medical aid to civilians. The two sides agreed to intensify their efforts in the days ahead and to maintain open channels of communication to facilitate progress toward a ceasefire agreement.

Additionally, Minister Abdel Aaty outlined the results of Egypt’s active engagement with all relevant parties to uphold a cessation of hostilities between Israel and Iran. He stressed the importance of resuming negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program and highlighted the need for both Israel and Iran to abide by agreements for a ceasefire. Such measures, he noted, would help reduce tensions, prevent further escalation, and open doors for diplomatic solutions in the region.

Minister Abdel Aaty reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast support for all initiatives that contribute to security and stability in the Middle East, underlining the country’s constructive role as a mediator and advocate for peace.
