Egypt and Yamaha partner to enhance music education in public schools

On the sidelines of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in Japan, Egypt’s Minister of Education and Technical Education, Mohamed Abdel Latif, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Yamaha Corporation to advance music education in Egyptian public schools.

The agreement aims to equip 100 government schools with musical instruments and provide teacher training to integrate these instruments into educational programs.

The signing ceremony was attended by Mohamed Abu Bakr, Egypt’s Ambassador to Japan, Dr. Hanem Ahmed, the Minister’s Advisor for International Relations and Agreements, and Ms. Nevin Hamouda, the Minister’s Advisor for Strategic Relations and Supervisor of Egyptian-Japanese Schools.

Minister Abdel Latif expressed gratitude to Yamaha, a global leader in musical instrument manufacturing, for their fruitful collaboration. He emphasized the critical role of music in shaping students’ personalities, particularly in early education, fostering creativity, artistic appreciation, and positive values within the school community.

The Minister voiced ambitions to expand this initiative to 1,000 schools in the near future, further elevating the quality of music education in public schools. He also praised the ongoing partnership with Yamaha in Egyptian-Japanese schools, where the company trains teachers to educate students on the Japanese “recorder” instrument and provides specialized music education content as part of approved Japanese activities.

Additionally, discussions explored future collaboration through Applied Technology Schools (ATS), where Egypt aims to replicate the Japanese technical curriculum under the supervision of Japanese experts. This initiative prepares students for employment in Japanese companies, both in Egypt and abroad, by adopting Japan’s renowned standards of efficiency and discipline.

This MoU aligns with the Ministry’s vision of delivering holistic education that nurtures Egyptian students’ creativity and excellence, contributing to the development of well-rounded individuals.
