Egyptian and Turkish leaders discuss urgent need for de-escalation in the Middle East

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call today from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to discuss the mounting tensions in the Middle East, according to an official statement by the Egyptian Presidency.

During the conversation, both leaders expressed deep concern over the escalating Israeli military actions in the region.

They warned that continued escalation could have disastrous effects on regional security and stability, potentially plunging the entire Middle East into chaos with severe consequences for all countries in the area.

President Sisi and President Erdoğan stressed the urgent need for an immediate cessation of military operations and called for a return to negotiations between the United States and Iran, indicating Oman’s mediation role as the most viable path toward a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, spokesperson for the presidency, highlighted President Sisi’s emphasis on a comprehensive approach to addressing all related security and nuclear non-proliferation concerns.

President Sisi reiterated Egypt’s consistent call for the universal adoption of the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the establishment of a Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction, involving all regional states.

The leaders also addressed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with President Sisi underlining that a just and comprehensive resolution—through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital—is essential for lasting peace and regional stability.

Both presidents reiterated their firm opposition to any attempts to displace Palestinians from their land or undermine the Palestinian cause.

President Sisi and President Erdoğan agreed to maintain ongoing consultations and cooperation in pursuit of restoring stability and peace to the region.
