Russian envoy: Israeli strikes on Iran risk ‘unprecedented nuclear disaster’

The Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, has issued a stark warning to the international community regarding recent Israeli strikes on Iranian sites, specifically those near peaceful nuclear facilities.

Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on Friday, Nebenzya cautioned that such attacks could trigger a nuclear catastrophe of unprecedented scale, urging Israel to immediately halt its operations.

Quoting remarks reported by Russian news agency Sputnik, Nebenzya stated, “Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities remain under attack. These actions could lead to a nuclear disaster that has never been experienced before.”

Earlier, Nebenzya had condemned the latest Israeli military actions against Iran, warning that these attacks are pushing the Middle East to the brink of "a major nuclear catastrophe." He described Israel’s actions as a "dangerous and highly irresponsible adventure," stressing that the potential radiological consequences of destroying nuclear installations are deeply concerning.

He called on the international community not to be a “bystander” to such provocations, and emphasized the urgent need for collective action to prevent further escalation.

The developments come as international tensions in the region remain high, with global leaders closely monitoring the situation to avert the risk of wider conflict and potential devastation.
